Tech Tip #1: Online Shopping

Shopping online is fast, easy, and convenient. ✅

However, it's also a fast, easy, and convenient way for scammers to trick buyers into paying for goods they won't receive OR to steal credit card information and other private information. 🚫

Here are three easy steps you can take to stay safe while online shopping:

1. Use safe payment options. 💸 PayPal is a great way to make transactions online because the seller never sees your credit card number. When you open a PayPal account, you can link it directly to your bank account or to a debit or credit card. The data is then encrypted for extra protection against fraud and identity theft.

2. Enable authentication tools and create unique pass-phrases. 🔎 Authentication tools include security keys or a one-time code using an app on your mobile device. A strong passphrase is a sentence with mixed symbols, upper and lower case letters, and is at least eight characters long. Don't use easy-to-guess passwords like "Password" or anything related to your birthday or phone number.

3. Browse the website's contents before making any buying decisions. 🖥 Stop, think, and connect the dots. Are there reviews from real customers? Do they have a solid online presence or linked accounts to verify their identity? Is the website secure? Is the web address a real site?
