Tech Tip #1: Online Shopping

Shopping online is fast, easy, and convenient. โœ…

However, it's also a fast, easy, and convenient way for scammers to trick buyers into paying for goods they won't receive OR to steal credit card information and other private information. ๐Ÿšซ

Here are three easy steps you can take to stay safe while online shopping:

1. Use safe payment options. ๐Ÿ’ธ PayPal is a great way to make transactions online because the seller never sees your credit card number. When you open a PayPal account, you can link it directly to your bank account or to a debit or credit card. The data is then encrypted for extra protection against fraud and identity theft.

2. Enable authentication tools and create unique pass-phrases. ๐Ÿ”Ž Authentication tools include security keys or a one-time code using an app on your mobile device. A strong passphrase is a sentence with mixed symbols, upper and lower case letters, and is at least eight characters long. Don't use easy-to-guess passwords like "Password" or anything related to your birthday or phone number.

3. Browse the website's contents before making any buying decisions. ๐Ÿ–ฅ Stop, think, and connect the dots. Are there reviews from real customers? Do they have a solid online presence or linked accounts to verify their identity? Is the website secure? Is the web address a real site?
